Don't place your refrigerator next to your stove or other sources of heat. And allow adequate wall and cabinet clearance. Giving a refrigerator or freezer "room to breath" will let it operate more efficiently and prevent premature burnout.

Welcome to the Audubon Lifestyles

Living sustainably means intentionally incorporating into your daily life practices that tend to sustain the earth's resources. There are many different possibilities... so many, that you can easily feel overwhelmed. Many people want to live more sustainably, but don't quite know what to do or where to start.

One key guideline is to start slowly and build gradually. If you try to turn your lifestyle upside down overnight, you're likely to feel overwhelmed and give up. Some of these changes can be very small (but effective), and are really a matter of changing old habits. Others may take more commitment of time and resources.

The Audubon Lifestyles website and our programs have been created as a way to assist individuals, businesses, neighborhoods, and communities seeking to take steps towards living sustainably.

The Sustainable Landscapes Program

The Audubon Lifestyles Landscape Program provides direction, technical assistance, public attentSustainable Landscapeion, and national recognition for landscapes that incorporate conservation techniques for home yards, municipal landscape areas, community common areas, parks, sportfields, golf courses and virtually any landscape where the managment incorporates practices that preserve limited and costly natural resources, reduce waste generation, and help prevent air, water, and soil pollution.

The Program also provides an opportunity for landscapers and landscape companies to have their managed properties individually recognized.

Sustainable Demonstation Project atScotland Yards Golf Club Taking Shape

Scotland Yards Golf ClubWith the economy still in the doldrums, a group of business and non-profit organizations has come together with an 18 hole golf course in Florida to demonstrate that embedding and embracing the tenets of sustainability regardless of the size and budget of the golf course will provide economic viability and provide a foundation upon which to deliver environmental and social benefits.

Audubon Lifestyles is coordinating the project at the Scotland Yards Golf Club, located between the small citrus towns of Zephyrhills and Dade City, and within easy driving distance of both Orlando and Tampa, Florida. Florida has been one of the states most impacted by the downturned economy, and so it made perfect sense to our team to prove the potential to doubters of sustainability by implementing sustainable management practices on a golf facility in a location that has been hardest hit with tough times.

Our goal is to prove to other golf facility owners who may be struggling in this economy that it doesn’t matter what how big or small your golf facility’s operating budget is— that it just makes financial sense to embrace the sustainability opportunities that are available in the market right now.
